8 String Falcate Braced Nylon String Crossover Blog:

July 5th 2018

Just a few remaining steps to string it up. First off I cut a mylar protection for the top. It is nice now so the idea is to leave it nice.

I put a 40' radius on the bottom of the bridge matching the radius I built into the top.

I have a mask but I still have a millimeter or so of finish to clear. With the bridge inplace using the index pins I scored the finish around the bridge.

Not shown I used a chisel and carefully lifted the finish to the score line

Before installing the bridge I decided to install the K&K pickups so I can use index pins to locate the pickups. I drilled a few extra 1/6" holes so that I could place the transducers by feel.

With the transducers for the pickup inplace I glued the bridge down.

I found the center of the tail wedge and used a 1/2" forstner bit to drill the hole for plug.

I cut a guitar amplifier cord to pull the pickup plug into the hole.

After that I waited a day and installed the tuning machines and strung her up! I still need a proper set up but she sounds good. Currently I am using .050" and .060" Nylon core silver wound strings for the sub base. They sound good tuned to a D and a B. I have ordered .054" and .064" strings to try and see if I could go down in 4ths from the E to B and F#.
